Edward Zigler

Edward Zigler is Sterling Professor of Psychology, Emeritus at Yale University. He holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. 

Dr. Zigler was the first Director of the Office of Child Development (now the Administration on Children, Youth, and Families) and Chief of the U.S. Children's Bureau. He was a member of the national planning committees of the Head Start, Follow Through and Early Head Start programs. Dr. Zigler founded and is the Director Emeritus of the Edward Zigler Center in Child Development and Social Policy at Yale University. He founded the School of the 21st Century model, which has been adopted by more than 1,300 schools in 20 states.

Dr. Zigler is the author, coauthor, or editor of over 800 scholarly publications and more than 35 books. He is frequently called upon by the media to comment on child and family issues.

Dr. Zigler is the recipient of over 100 awards. His many honors include awards from the American Psychological Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Society for Research in Child Development, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the American Academy on Mental Retardation, the American Orthopsychiatric Association, the National Head Start Association, the Heinz Foundation, and Family Support America. In 1972, Dr. Zigler was awarded a Special Citation by the Secretary of Health Education and Welfare. He is the recipient of many honorary degrees.
